Google Reviews
TLDR: Best of the best. Dr. Burrus is a solid orthopedic surgeon. Expert, informative, doesn’t talk over your head, great communicator and supportive start to finish. My son is doing *so well* post the MPFL knee-reconstruction surgery he had recently. The Deets: My 14 y.o. had a tricky knee that would go out on him whenever he pushed himself in basketball or strenuous legwork. I’d made an appointment, not knowing much of anything about Dr. Burrus, other than seeing a laundry list of credentials and glowing reviews. All legit.
I attended with my son an appointment with Dr. Burrows on September 20 at 3707 S 2nd St location trying to seek a second treatment opinion, since my 20 years old son had a fatal car accident (where he was the passenger), and after spending almost two months in the hospital, several surgeries on the vertebrae in his neck, major surgery on his right femur, amputation of his right arm, and a prognosis of complex trauma to his right knee. After examining my son, Dr. Burrows told us that my son needed to wear a special brace to help stabilize a femur and tibia subluxation and a PCL tear.
I was referred to Dr. Burrus after a severe knee injury. Straightforward, no nonsense appointments and a successful surgery. Highly recommended.

About M. Tyrrell Burrus, MD
Scope of care at M. Tyrrell Burrus, MD
Fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery defines this orthopedic practice. Dr. Burrus says he treats shoulder and knee injuries and offers both operative and nonoperative paths. His website names arthroscopic and open procedures for both joints, with ACL tears among the knee conditions it lists.
Conservative care is part of the plan. The website describes physical therapy and PRP injections as options before surgery, and states that physical therapy is offered at each office. It also reports more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, with shoulder replacement, rotator cuff repair and biceps tenodesis among the research topics.
When M. Tyrrell Burrus, MD sees new patients
The South Austin office runs a full Monday and a Wednesday morning, and the website lists a second office in Round Rock open Wednesday afternoons. Appointments can be requested by phone or online for either office. The practice reports that telemedicine visits are available.
Dr. Burrus is employed by Ascension Medical Group Seton Orthopedics, which the website says provides the professional services and handles payment. Referral and billing questions go through that group.
Patient feedback on M. Tyrrell Burrus, MD
The practice holds a 4.5 rating from 44 Google reviews. Reviewers most often describe knee ligament reconstructions and rotator cuff or biceps repairs followed by a return to sport, work and full strength. Many say he explains options plainly and that his staff stayed reachable before and after surgery, including help arranging physical therapy.
The criticism is narrower. The one low score among recent reviews came from a family seeking a second opinion after severe trauma, and one patient mentions expecting a long wait, though their own visit moved quickly.
Dr. Burrus states that he is board certified and fellowship trained, belongs to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and teaches as a clinical instructor at UT Austin's Dell Medical School.
Shoulder and knee injuries that may need either surgery or a conservative trial fit this practice, with visits limited to two clinic days in Austin and one afternoon in Round Rock.
